Park information

Bouddi National Park Check for park closures and fire bans

Bouddi National Park is south east of Woy Woy and encompasses the Box Head headland. Bouddi NP has numerous secluded beaches and some great surf beaches too. The park also offers fantastic coastal walking with views out from the tall headlands over Broken Bay, Woy Woy and the South Pacific Ocean. Bouddi NP also boasts one of the first marine extensions in NSW, with a 300ha protection zone out of Maitland Bay for the marine life. The mosquitoes in Bouddi NP can be fierce so it might be an idea to pack insect repellent.

Cost to drive a car into the park (if you do not have a valid pass)

$7

Camping is available in the park

$5 to $5

Public toilets are available in the park

You may need to update your fees and cahrges for camping etc within National Parks. The fees you have advertised are no longer current.

We've camped here quite a few times and it's a really beautiful spot. with really clean, modern toilets. Can be very very popular though so in peak times it pays to book early.

Mid week and out of school holidays are the quietest times. I have heard one person mention campers with music players, but really that could happen anywhere.
Hope you enjoy your night out

Good spot, bit of a walk in though, probably best to go where you can either drive or get to easily and where there are good facilities. Once you have been camping a few times, then try here. Consider inviting some friends with you.
Not sure where you live, if you can get to Lane Cove this could be a good start.

Can anyone recommend the best campsite? Is it better to be closer to the beach at 16 or 17 or up top?

Is any one has link to a clear map of walking tracks around the Basin?

Any advice for someone who wants to swim in the Basin?

Hi John. The basin campsite?? which one, or do you mean this one at Putty Beach?? There are several un-supervised beaches to swim. For this walk near here check out this link http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/bouddi-national-park/

Does anyone know exactly how far the "short walk to campsite from car" is?
Thanks

Sure do :)
It is about 5-20m. 'Short walk' just means you can't camp right at your car (such as with a camper trailer). You will be able to easily see your car from your tent.
Have a great time.

Hi John.
Some parks advertise that people under 18 must have and adult with them. I can't find any policy online for this park that says either way. Best to give them a call and have a chat to see what they say. Let us know what you find out.
Matt :)

yeah you must be accompanied by an adult (18+)
do you know anywhere else we could go?

Hi
We are a young family looking to find a nice beach camping spot. My husband has a disability, though he is very fierce and determined, I would like to find a place where the campsite is not more than 400m to the beach, so that it's easier on his legs.
We are experienced campers and short walks are not a problem.
Could someone let me know the approx distance? Also, how level is the walk to the beach?
Thanks
Bec

Hi Bec
Just shy of 100m along a somewhat compacted sandy, gently sloping, track to the main sandy section of beach, then another 60m over the softer sand to the waters edge. Here is a photo of the access track
http://www.wildwalks.com/i.html?image_id=20663
But this gets you to an unpatrolled section of beach. It is a short drive to the other end of the beach that is patrolled (at times) by Killcare Surf Lifesaving Club. This has similar access.
Hope that helps
Have a great time.
Matt :)

RE: John's comment; "yeah you must be accompanied by an adult (18+)"

Hello. Some nephews of mine were planning on taking a camping trip down to Little Beach in the Bouddi National Park with a group of friends. Three of them are 18 and are classified as adults, whereas a few are 17. Are the 18 year olds enough of an adult escort for the 17 year olds? It has been difficult to find camping policy in regards to this age limit, and the national park facilities I have called have said different things.

Thank you very much for your help.

Phillip wrote:

My understanding of the policy is that any responsible adult (person over 18) can supervise the people under 18. Having said that if they where my kids I would want to be confident that the supervisors (and my kids) are competent to look after each other as well as care for the environment they are going into. But I guess that goes without saying :)

Happy camping

Matt :)
Alicia - getting there via public trans IP:220.239.163.xxx | 2012-01-08 04:33:01
I've looked up route 59 and 65, which I know drive near Putty Beach, but I don't know if they stop anywhere near it. I looked along a large stretch of the route on Google Street-view and couldn't see any bus stops. The timetable indicates that there is a stop at "Killcare Heights (Manly View Rd & Hats St)" but I couldn't find one. Has anyone caught either of these routes before and knows where would be the best/closest place to get off?

Hi Alicia
Yeah bust timetables can get confusing.
Have a look at this map, the red dots are bus stops.

I am going with my partner and an other friend, all of us dont have much experience in camping or either facilities to camping (we do have tent, sleeping bags and a stove) would be this a good destination for us?

Matheus wrote:

Hi Matheus
I think this would be a good place for people with limited camping experaince. You camp near your car, and there are some good facilities (but not over the top). Nice place to hang out. Watch the weather, as this is a coastal campsite it can get windy and pretty bad if there is a storm. So pitch your tent well, and if the weather looks blowy, maybe try for another weekend. Happy camping

Hi, I have just booked a campsite at Putty Beach. Do you need to take drinking water? Are there campsites on both sides of the road? From google maps/ streetview it looks like people camp on both sides of the road. We have site 10 - is it a good one? Is the beach OK? or a bit wild? do kids take their bikes/ scooters?
Mil IP:121.217.21.xxx | 2014-03-17 09:25:50
Also. should we take a stand up paddle board or surfboards? Are there large waves? shore dumpers? Or is the beach flat? How far is the patrolled end of Killcare? I've heard there is a local RSL that picks up and drops off from the campsite? Doe anyone know the name of it?
