Just got back from Dunns Swamp and I must admit I was bowled over by how amazing this place is. Very well organised with lots of room for campers and caravaners.

There are plenty of things to do and see. My only regret is I didn't get to hire a canoe but that just means I'll have to visit again in the Summer months.

Sorry no generators allowed to be used in this National Park (now pets or chainsaws either)
It is a great campsite - worth going without power for the night if you can.

Hi there
I'm just wondering if it's possible to have a small fire for cooking and heat at this campground? I'm hoping to stay for a weekend in late May and I'm sure it will get rather cool in the evenings. If anyone has visited recently any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to ask are there any secluded camping areas not far from the water away from the main camping areas? Not a fan of the open grassy areas and prefer to be away from other campers amongst the bush.

Hi Rudiger
This is a great and popular camping area. The campsite is not a large open grassy area, but more a series of smaller campsites scattered around. A bit further back from the water are campsites between large rock formations and groves of trees. I would not call an secluded or private, but you don't feel like you are camping inside someone elses tent.
Happy camping
Matt :)

Hi Ben, You used to be able to hire Canoes from the campsite, but I understand they closed. But it would be worth calling the NPWS office and see if someone else has come in to fill the spot. It is a wonderful place to camp and explore.
Happy camping.
Matt :)
Kip - Is mid-october a busy time her IP:69.201.150.xxx | 2012-09-10 12:19:16
Hi, Matt.
I've hired a campervan for a holiday in Australia, and will be traveling through the Blue Mountains in mid-October. Given that this site is first come first serve, I wasn't sure if this is a busy time of the year where I should be concerned about the sites filling up. I plan to be there middle of the week - do you think I'll need a back-up plan?

And thank you for your site, It's been very helpful.

Hi Kip
Sorry for my slow response. If you are mid week and not during school holidays you should be fine. School holidays you will definitely need a backup plan.
Matt :)

Good swimming - large area and a few "beach" areas for the kids. there are boats and no life guards so care is needed. Some good walks as well.

Lara - Walk en route home? IP:124.170.207.xxx | 2013-02-08 09:16:28
Hi there - I am heading to Mudgee for a couple nights and was wondering if it would work to stop off at Dunns Swamp (en route back to Sydney) in order to have a bit of a walk around and enjoy what appears to be beautiful scenery...we can only manage a couple hours, so just wasn't sure if it was too far off the main road to allow for a pit stop. Ideally, we (four adults, one bub) would love to be able to drive right in, have a nice little hour or so walk, check out the swamp and then head back out....(someday we will come back for a proper camp)...any feedback would be most appreciated. thanks

Hi Lara
Sorry for the slow reply - sure is a worth just dropping in. There are some nice signposted short walks from the camping area and a splash on the water is also nice. The drive in is on a dirt road - fine in a 2wd - so if you are comfortable driving on a dirt road then it is a great stop. Enjoy
Matt :)

Hi there was thinking of heading up there soon for a family holiday I noticed in an earlier response you mentioned boats in the water
Does that mean there is a boat ramp there?
