(0 km) Waterfall Station to Cricket Oval Eastern Gate
Track: Hard - bushtrack
Length = 587 m Time = 11 mins
Climb = 4 m Descent = -20 m
From the top of the ramp, this walk crosses the road bridge towards the station car park. The walk passes through the gap in the fence behind the car park, then follows the 'Uloola Falls' sign along the track through the dense scrub. After some time, the walk opens out at the cricket oval and follows the left-hand edge around to the signposted intersection of the 'Uloola Track'.

(0.59 km) Cricket Oval Eastern Gate to Int. Couranga Trk and Uloola Trk
Track: Moderate - servicetrail
Length = 561 m Time = 10 mins
Climb = 14 m Descent = -8 m
Veer left: From the intersection, this walk follows the 'Uloola Falls' arrow around the locked gate and along the management trail. The trail heads straight through the bushland (which gradually thins out) as the walk continues to the signposted intersection of the 'Couranga Track'.

(1.15 km) Int. Couranga Trk and Uloola Trk to Int. Waterfall Ck Trk and Couranga Trk
Track: Hard - bushtrack
Length = 3.24 km Time = 1 hr 15 mins
Climb = 40 m Descent = -242 m
Turn right: From the intersection, this walk follows the sign for 'Couranga Track' along the narrow track (just to the left of the sign) down the hill, along a ridge top. The track then soon winds left, heading down the side of the ridge. The track heads down the hill to a point where it meets a creek. On the rock before the creek is a painted white arrow indicating the track direction, down the hill. The track continues for some time down the gully with the creek on the left. The track then heads around the hill crossing many creek beds as it gently descends to an intersection next to the Hacking River. The intersection is marked at the river by a 'Car Park 1km' sign.

(4.38 km) Int. Waterfall Ck Trk and Couranga Trk to Int. McKell Ave and Waterfall Ck Trk
Track: Hard - bushtrack
Length = 502 m Time = 10 mins
Climb = 36 m Descent = -4 m
Continue straight: From the intersection, this walk follows the track, keeping the creek below on the left. The track bends around to the right and continues along for about 30m, before crossing the creek at an elevated rock platform. On the opposite bank, the walk climbs up into a grassy clearing. Crossing this, the track continues up the long hill on the other side, through tall eucalyptus trees and ferns. At the top of the hill, the track flattens out and continues to the intersection of Mckell Ave.

Current Park Closure information for Royal National Park
Closure information last downloaded Sunday 27th of September 2015 07:00 AM
Closed areas: The Coast track upgrade
The Coast track will be undergoing construction works between Beachcomber Ave and Marley Beach over a 9 month period. Works include resurfacing, installation of raised board walk and stairs and will be undertaken between October 2015 and May 2016. During the works it will be necessary, at times, to close the Coast Track for visitor safety. Please be aware that during closures the full coast track walk will not be possible and you may need to plan your route to start and finish at a different location. The Royal National Park alerts page will be updated regularly so please check it before you leave home. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, please contact Royal National Park area office on (02) 9542 0632 or visit the NSW National Parks safety page for park safety guidelines.

Closed areas: Wedding Cake Rock
Access to Wedding Cake Rock is prohibited. National Parks and Wildlife Service has undertaken a geotechnical assessment of the rock, which found that there is high chance that it could collapse at any time. Safety fencing has been erected to protect the public while a more permanent solution is developed. This is a really beautiful location and a spectacular rock formation to look at, but the key is doing it at a safe distance from the edge.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather
Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

When you come across the sign for the Couranga track it is not immediately obvious that the track is to the left of sign as it is heavily overgrown. We though it was just a gap made by run-off. It wasn't till we realised there was nothing down the Uloola track that we came back and had a better look.

Thanks Guy-Francis
You are right, that could have been clearer, sorry for the extra exercise. I have updated the notes, please let me know if it could be made even clearer.
(Also the note before the sign was not great, this has been updated to).

Rachel L. - Walked this track yesterday IP:120.158.53.xxx | 2010-10-18 06:09:10
My husband I just walked this track yesterday and although, for the most part, the walk was quite nice, the track is very overgrown (to the point where my face kept getting smacked by plants- a lot and I'm 5'7"). Also, after you get to the circular field, it's quite hard to tell where the track picks up again (because currently there is a big mound of dirt , which sadly, has the sign, broken in it for where the track is supposed to pick up again) but as the instructions in here say, the track picks up again off the service looking road that has a locked gate. But all in all, this was a nice walk. We saw many spring blooms and birds, and many lizards like a bearded dragon, water dragon, and a lace moniter!

Walked the track this morning (1st May 2014). As mentioned above, I had to check the notes at the Couranga turn off as it does just look like a water run off the main track. Track is reasonbly clear for about 1km the next 1km or so is very overgrown and I found myself stooping alot (I'm 6'1). Track was easy to follow until just after the carpark 1km intersection where it crosses the creek before heading up to McKell Ave. Probably needs to be some signage erected. It wasn't until I came back down from McKell Ave that i saw where the crossing is meant to be. Do NPWS ever go through and trim scrub etc to maintain the tracks?

I agree with James. Obviously it is not a popular track. I would not do this again because of the overgrowth. It is definitely a "wild walk."

The creek crossing is nice at the eastern end and as points made above when coming off the management trail it might be hard to miss. Just keep looking to your right and the sign will be there.
Mat & Mat - Horrible track IP:120.23.15.xxx | 2014-11-29 00:31:23
Completely overgrown. We got 9 leeches on our shoes, but picked them all off. We were stopping every five minutes to check our shoes.

What a horrible walk.

We did see an echidna. I hope he doesn't have any leeches, but he is probably infested by them.

We will never ever walk that horrible track again. May it completely overgrow and cease to exist in the near future.
Hazel - Track was great today IP:27.32.237.xxx | 2015-07-26 13:20:46
Had a lovely walk today and none of the trouble of previous commenters.

The way was easy to find (perhaps the signage is better now) and while the first section after the turnoff from the Uloola track was narrow with dense bush either side, it was perfectly easy to walk.

The forest down in the valley is particularly nice. I combined this walk with the Forest Way track, which I can recommend doing as that was also beautiful. I had to take my boots off to wade across the river on the connecting track to the Forest Way - strangely refreshing despite the very chilly water. Luckily no leeches active at the moment and plenty of good birds.

Many thanks for the track notes etc!
