The walk to the Asgard Kiln and Mine is a great, quick trip which passes through some interesting swamp environments. The track does not get bogged in the swamp but passes along a dry service trail and bush track. The Asgard Kiln and Mine is well worth the visit, but don't forget to take a torch! (open in app)

From the car park with the 'Asgard Swamp 3km' sign, this walk passes the closed gate and heads down the hill. After a short distance, the track tends left, more steeply down the hill, to then follow the spur for approximately 500m. The walk then comes to a creek crossing in a swampy area, after which the trail heads up the hill and tends right, continuing for a few hundred metres to an area between two rock outcrops, the larger one on the right.

Turn left: From the intersection, this walk heads away from the larger rock outcrop, down the hill for approximately 50m to the small pyramid-shaped rock outcrop. (Retrace your steps back to the main track, then turn left to continue along this walk.)

Pyramid Shaped Rock
The pyramid-shaped rock, Blue Mountains NP, is, as the name suggests, a rock shaped like a pyramid. This rock is situated just south of Asgard Swamp, next to the service trail. The campsite has a well-established fireplace and nicely cleared area for tents. The pyramid shaped rock adds some character to the campsite, providing views over the swamp.

Continue straight: From the intersection, this walk keeps the large rocky outcrop on the right, as the trail follows near to its base. The track leads up a slight hill and onto a small rise, at the top of which is . (If the track starts to slowly drop past this ridge on the left, you have gone too far.) Veer right: From the intersection, this walk continues down an increasingly thin and more overgrown service trail, keeping the large rocky outcrop on the right, away from the track. The track continues to a signposted intersection.

(2.52 km) Int. Asgard Swamp Trail and Asgard Mine Trk to Asgard Mine Track: Hard - bushtrack	Length = 247 m	Time = 6 mins
	Climb = 4 m	Descent = -44 m
Turn left: From the intersection, this walk follows the sign 'Asgard Swamp Coal Mine' downhill towards the cliffs (which are across the valley). The track winds down the hill for approximately 100m to a small creek, then turns left to meet a more defined creek with a bridge. This walk crosses the small bridge and turns right, heading down the hill to where the track meets a small waterfall. This intersection is just up the gully from an overhang, on the left of the track. Continue straight: From the intersection, this walk crosses the creek and follows the cliffline for approximately 10m. The track then zigzags down the hill to come back on itself while leading down the hill. From the last step, the track ducks under a log to the mine entrance in the cliff, on the left.

Asgard Mine	Alt = 836 m
Asgard Mine
Asgard mine is the entrance to an old coal mine. The mine and kiln are the only heritage links to such industrial efforts of the 1860's to 1920's, in New South Wales. The mine's entrance is approximately 1.6m tall and wide and expands some 30m into the hill, so pack a torch if peering in. (The integrity of the mine is unknown.) More info

Continue straight: From the mine, this walk continues along the cliffline, keeping the cliffs to the left of the track. The walk crosses the creek to the north and contours around the base of the cliffs for approximately 20m to the overgrown kiln.

Asgard Kiln	Alt = 828 m
Asgard Kiln
Asgard kiln is an old coke oven which was used in the processing of the coal. The oven looks as though it has never been used, with a clean set of bricks inside and sandstone blocks on the outside. The oven is overgrown, although the entrance is still clear. More info

Attracting over 3 million visitors annually, Blue Mountains National Park holds some of Australia's most spectacular and diverse wilderness areas. Explore the Grose Valley, with its sheer sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and scenic walking, or enjoy the famous views of the Three Sisters. Easy access makes a day trips very worthwhile, but with such diversity it would be great to stay in one of the many B&B's and spend a few days soaking up the region.

Closed areas: Grand Canyon walking track
The Grand Canyon walking track will be closed from Wednesday 14 October 2015 to mid-June 2016. The closure is necessary to allow work to continue on improving the walking track. Access for canyoners will be on weekends only. Access from Evans Lookout via Beauchamp Falls to the Grose Valley will remain open. Evans Lookout carpark, Loop carpark, and Neates Glen carpark will remain open. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed areas: Waratah Native Gardens
Waratah Native Gardens picnic area is closed for maintenance. This includes the Gorge Walking track. No access to the area is permitted.Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed areas: Prince Henry cliff walk, Leura
Blue Mountains City Council wishes to advise that Prince Henry cliff walk between Majestic lookout and the junction with the Leura Cascades walk is currently closed due to a landslip. Detours will be in place and clearly signposted around the affected area. Access from the Leura picnic area to the cascades is unaffected. Closed areas: Butterbox Swamp track
The traditional access to Butterbox Canyon via the endangered swamp is now closed and rehabilitated. No access permitted. Canyoners should use the new track provided. Temporary signage is in place.

Closed areas: Claustral canyon access change
Access to Claustral canyon via the previous route across private land at Mount Tomah is no longer possible due to landholders denying access. Canyoners should respect the rights of Mount Tomah residents and avoid using private land. Alternative access from the west side of Mount Bell has been identified. Closed areas: Cahills lookout - Katoomba
As a result of a recent bushfire, Cahills lookout remains closed until further notice. For more information, please contact Blue Mountains City Council on (02) 4780 5000.

Closed areas: Waratah Native Gardens
Waratah Native Gardens Some areas of this park are closed due to a major landslip event occurring across The Gorge Walking Track. Closed areas include The Gorge Walking Track in the Blue Mountains National Park. A full assessment is underway to determine the extent of damage and to ensure the area is made safe. The Gorge Walking Track is closed at the entry trackhead however the Waratah Native Gardens Day Use and Picnic Area located off Valley Ridges Road Berambing (west of Bilpin) has now been reopened. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible. There is a large tree that have fallen over the track and taken smaller trees down as well just before you reach the mine opening. You can climb over them but it's is a bit hard going and you will need to take care you don't fall.

Good little walk however, we had a close encounter with a red bellied black snake where the path turns left at the sign - just before the descend. The track is narrow and overgrown but only for a few meters.

Track doesn't look very used, but it was a nice walk. Put a couple of fallen logs down to cross the first creek, wouldn't suggest going out after heavy rain. The mine and the kiln were lovely to explore, the 30 - 45cm track is part of a steep mountain.
